Club Finals 2025 Reports & Photos

Men's Singles: John Townley 12, Pete Leverett 22.

Pete started the match really well, winning 4 of the first 5 ends to lead 8-2. A pair from John was followed by a count of 4 from Pete and Pete was leading 12-4 after end 8. John then had a good run, with wins on 4 of the next 5 ends, closing the gap to 10-13 after 12 ends. Pete now found his form again and 5 of the remaining 6 ends, scoring 9 shots to John's 2 and winning the match 22-12.

Women's Singles: Jane Ward 21, Janet Townley 10

Jane was in match winning mode from the start, winning 7 of the first 8 ends; scoring 16 shots and allowing Janet a solitary pair. Janet won ends 9 and 10, reducing the deficit by 4 shots, but Jane hit back with 4 shots of her own over the succeeding 2 ends. At end 12, Jane held a 20-6 lead and needed only that elusive final shot to win. Janet made her wait by winning 3 ends and scoring 4 more shots, but it was only delaying the inevitable and Jane scored the shot she needed on end 16, to win 21-10.

Handicap: David Lloyd (3) 10, John Townley (0) 22

John started quickly, with scores of 1,3,3 on the first 3 ends. A reply of 1,2,2 from David put him 8-7 ahead. John took back control of the game, by winning the next 5 ends, adding 10 shots to his total and establishing a 17-8 lead. Two shots on end 12 were not enough to save David and John scored a single and a 4 to win 22-10.

Drawn Pairs: Jane Ward & Wendy Cross 15, Graham Kennedy & Elaine Robinson 19

This was always going to be a close match between the two strongest pairings of the competition. Jane & Wendy took the early lead, with 7 shots over 4 winning ends. The momentum now switched to Graham & Elaine, with 11 shots over the next 4 ends and a lead of 11-7. Back now to Jane & Wendy, with two singles and a 3 count. They now had a narrow 1 shot lead after end 11 (12-11). A pair from Graham & Elaine was matched by two singles from Jane & Wendy, before Graham & Elaine galloped into a 5 shot lead with three successive pairs. One end to play and Jane & Wendy needed perfection to win. They scored one shot, instead of the 6 they needed to win and it was all over.

2 Wood: John Townley 2, Elaine Robinson 0

In the first set, Elaine started with a pair on the first end, but was given little opportunity after that. John was in fine form, winning all bar one of the remaining ends and winning the set 7-3. The second set followed a similar pattern, with John 5 of the 7 ends played and winning the set 7-2.

Senior Citizens: Tony Reid 7, Graham Kennedy 14

Graham flew out of the traps, winning the first three ends (1,2,2), before Tony hit back with two singles. Three more winning ends and 5 more shots put Graham ahead 10-2, with 7 ends to play. Tony got the better of the remaining ends, winning 4 and losing 2 of them. However, his 5 shots only slightly outweighed Graham's 4 and he was unable to close the gap. There was no need to play the final end, as Tony was too far behind.

2 Wood Pairs: Sue Reid & Sandra Gough 9, Jean Buckett & John Townley 26

Sue & Sandra started well, winning the first two ends, both by singles. Jean & John scored 3 shots on end 3 and Sue & Sandra replied with a single on end 4, making it 3-3.Jean & John now started to gain the upper hand, with scores of 1,4 and 3, to lead 11-3 after end 7. A purple patch from Sue & Sandra saw them win 4 of the next 5 ends, scoring 6 shots. Jean & John scored 3 shots on the end they did win, so it was 14-9 to them at that stage. Jean & John completely dominated the remaining 6 ends, winning 2,1,2,2,3,2 for a very comfortable victory.

Plate: Jane Ward (1) 21, David Skilleter (8) 14

Jane set off like an express train, making up the difference in handicap by end 4. Success on the first 7 ends put her 14-8 ahead, before David scored a single at the start of a run of 5 winning ends out of the next 6. The score was now 16-14 in Jane's favour and she was looking far less certain to win. Shocked into this realisation, Jane buckled down and won the next three ends (1.3.1), to complete her victory.

Novices: Lorraine Walters 7, Pete Leverett 23

Pete had won the Men's Singles just two days before and he started as you would expect him to. 11 shots on the first 4 ends put Lorraine immediately on the back foot. She came back with a pair on end 5, but Pete won the following 3 ends (3,2,2), to open up an 18-2 lead and leave himself only 3 shots short of victory. A gallant fight back by Lorraine seemed a possibility as Lorraine won ends 9 and 10, adding 5 shots to her total. Pete nipped that in the bud with a single and a score of 4, to add his second trophy to the cabinet.

91 Up: John Townley 91, Jane Ward 89

This promised to be a thriller and so it was. Jane won 3 of the first 4 ends, with the other drawn, and led 24-16. Two wins and a draw and John was down by 34-36. Two 7-3 wins and a draw and Jane had increased her lead to 55-45. Still nothing in it. Two 9-1 wins by John surpassed the 7-3 by Jane and he led 66-64. Jane won end 14 by 6-4 and they were level again. Two 8-2 wins for John put Jane under intense pressure, with John leading 86-74 and needing only 5 shots for victory. She fought back with an 8-2 win in end 17, but John was now only 3 shots short of victory, while Jane needed 9. Despite winning end 18 by 7-3, Jane had not prevented John from gaining those final 3 shots and he added another title to his collection.
