At the last Open Day at Shiplake Bowls Club, I went along, having promised myself for ages that I would give it a go, having last played a bit 40 years ago. It's always a bit intimidating going to a new group when you don't know them or fear that you might not fit in. Those thoughts were soon banished, as you couldn't meet a more open and friendly group of people. Looking for something that was fun, but also engaging and challenging, I loved it. Now, a month later, I am really enjoying playing the Monday and Friday open sessions with other club members, getting to know them and learning, with cheery encouragement, how to play better. I am well and truly hooked. So if you have been meaning to give it a go but thought you wouldn't be good enough, or wouldn't have time-then now is the time. For a very reasonable annual subscription you will be glad you didn't leave it any longer. I'm glad I didn't! There are notices all round the village about the next Open Day in May- or look them up for contact details www.bowlsshiplake.com
Quote from Ann Manning on the Forum page of local Shiplake Villages website :
"I have lived in Lower Shiplake for more than 30 years and having seen the Open Day poster for Shiplake Bowls Club I decided to take the bull by the horns and go. So, this morning I went at 10.30 in the grey and wet with slight apprehension but I need not have worried everyone made me so welcome - and I do mean everyone. Started with tea or coffee and then on to the green for a practice with some lovely people who showed us the ropes and gave us some tips. I loved it!
So, if anyone in Lower Shiplake, Shiplake or anywhere local - young or old - if you have been thinking about trying bowls I can thoroughly recommend it, Lovely club house and bar all in all a great morning. Thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome we will be back"
